About CSI RMC Sulur

Robertson Memorial Church — a house of prayer on Market Road since 1914.

Who we are

A congregation rooted in Sulur

CSI Robertson Memorial Church — RMC, as we are fondly known — stands on Market Road in Sulur, on the eastern side of Coimbatore. Established in 1914, it is the church of the CSI Sulur Pastorate in the Coimbatore Diocese of the Church of South India.

The congregation gathers every Sunday at 9:00 AM for worship in Tamil, following the order of the Church of South India. Since 2020 the service has also been streamed live each week, so that members who are unwell, travelling or living away from Sulur can still worship with their church.

Through the year the life of the church follows the Christian calendar — from the candlelight service before Christmas to the sunrise service on Easter morning — and makes room for every generation, with Sundays led by the women, the youth, the children and the choir.

The Church of South India

The Church of South India is a united church: the fruit of decades of prayer and conversation between churches of different traditions who believed that Christ’s people should be one. Its motto is taken from the prayer of Jesus in John 17:21 — “That they all may be one.”

The CSI is governed by bishops, presbyters and lay people together, and is organised into dioceses across South India and Sri Lanka.

What we believe

One faith, shared with the whole Church

As part of the Church of South India, we hold the faith that Christians have confessed in every age.

✠

The Holy Scriptures

We receive the Old and New Testaments as containing all things necessary to salvation, and as the supreme standard of faith.

✠

The Creeds

We confess the faith of the Church in the words of the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed.

✠

The Sacraments

We celebrate the two sacraments ordained by Christ himself: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
