Sunday worship
The Lord’s Day at RMC
The congregation gathers every Sunday at 9:00 AM. Worship is in Tamil and usually lasts between an hour and a half and two hours. Every Sunday has its own theme from the calendar of the Church of South India, which shapes the readings, the prayers and the sermon.
On some special Sundays — a Communion or Confirmation service, for example — worship begins earlier, at 7:30 or 8:00 AM. Any change is announced in church the week before and on our Facebook page.
Order of worship
What happens in the service
Prayer
We begin by coming before God: a call to worship, confession and the assurance of forgiveness.
Hymns & lyrics
The congregation sings from the hymnal and from the treasury of Tamil Christian lyrics, led by the choir.
The Word of God
Readings from the Old and New Testaments, and a sermon on the theme of the day.
Intercession & offering
We pray for the church, the nation, the sick and those in need, and bring our gifts to God.
Announcements
News of the week ahead: meetings of the fellowships, special services and matters for prayer.
The blessing
The presbyter sends the congregation out with God’s blessing. On Communion Sundays the Lord’s Supper is celebrated before it.
